How’s the River Holding Up? Are there caddis yet? We get asked this a lot. Every year about this time at the end of April going into early May, we all want to know if we’re going to be the lucky one and hit the lottery. A fishable Yellowstone river, caddis blowing up all over, and trout recklessly in a feeding frenzy… Is it now? Not quite. The Magic 8-ball said “Try again later”….. Are we going to see everything align and have a window? Yes, possibly. If you’re wanting to go, suggest you do so soon. At least for […]
Read MoreWarm weather and mixed precip of snow and rain earlier in the week has colored up the river a bit. It still has solid visibility for fishing but there is some color to it. We would say that vis is in the 2-3 ft range. Nothing to scare you away from fishing but something to consider before coming over. We have had some boats out there and fishing seems to be solid here in the valley. It seems that most of the traffic has been focused between Pine Creek and 89 Bridge. We haven’t gotten a confirmed report, but it […]

Read MoreYellowstone River Fishing Report March 12, 2021 It’s time to pull the boats out of the garage and dust of your rods! Warm weather has decreased the ice flow and the Yellowstone temps have come up. Ranging around 40 degrees at the height of the day. Midges are certainly a good option throughout the day, and you should expect a hatch on the calmer overcast days. If you are going to get out, the last couple hours of daylight should be really good. Zebra midges and smaller flies in the #18-#20 range should be good to imitate midges. Black will […]
Read MoreYellowstone River Fishing Report, October 3rd, 2020 Apologies for the for the delay on the fishing reports! Its been a little while since we put one up and the fishing has definitely changed. It is definitely starting to feel like fall here as we are seeing temperatures well into the 30s during the early hours of the day. Although the hoppers are still out, they are dwindling by the day. It is time to start focusing more on aquatic insects and less on terrestrials. Baetis(BWOs) and hecubas(fall drakes) are going to be the most prominent bugs you see while you […]
Read MoreYellowstone River Fishing Report August 31st, 2020 The stone continues to produce as we fish our final days of summer and into the fall season. Boy, we have had another excellent hopper season. The banks have been thick with clicking wings and big bugs hopping from blade to blade of grass. The Yellowstone River watershed has always provided us with terrestrial fishing and this year has been as good as advertised. We’ve got a bit of a cold spell from yesterday and today but the hopper bite should bounce back later this week as temperatures rise […]
Read MoreYellowstone River Fly Fishing Report August 23rd, 2020 Hopper season continues! Our terrestrial season in Paradise Valley is continuing to provide great fishing here on the Yellowstone River. We are seeing lots of mature hoppers on the banks and in the river. These cool nights and mornings are certainly slowing the hopper bite early in the day, but as the sun gets high and the banks warm up those bugs are making their way onto the water. Best hopper bite seems to be between 1pm and 5pm. With that being said, different days are going to shorten or extend that […]
Read MoreYellowstone River Fishing Report August 15th, 2020 I know that I am a little behind on getting you all an updated report but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to catch fish on the Yellowstone this time of year! The buzz in the grass is still happening and hoppers are still the main course for trout in the Yellowstone River. We have had excellent fishing in all sections of the river. We are grateful for lower temps in the evenings and early mornings to keep our water temperature at a much more stable place than it was 2 weeks ago. Flows […]
Read MoreYellowstone River Fishing Report August 1st, 2020 Its HOT out there! We’ve had a string of hot days and the weather isn’t looking to change too soon. We’ll drop back down into the 80’s next week but its still hot. Fishing will be best in the mornings and will certainly slow in the afternoons once water temps ramp up. Don’t panic, these hot days are going to make the hopper fishing that much better once the river temps are back in shape! Warmer water temps means less oxygen and more stress on the fish. We highly recommend getting on […]
Read MoreThings are seriously heating up here on the Yellowstone River. We are beginning to see more and more hopper activity on the banks and fishing is getting good. Not too hard of a decision when it comes to flies right now. Our aquatic insects are starting to slow as water temps rise. Hay has been cut here in the valley and has pushed lots of those grasshopper closer to the banks in search of taller grass. Likewise, as things continue to dry out, the grasshoppers are going to move to the banks where grass is healthier. We’re still seeing the […]
